What can you use the app for?

SittingAround is a babysitter finder that gives parents more options, some of which can save money. The application helps users locate babysitters that are qualified and reliable. The search tool is currently in beta testing for parents in Boston, New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Seattle. Parents can select a country and zip code and view a list of babysitters offering services to the SittingAround community. The babysitter directory is still very small from a national or global standpoint, including 288 sitters in the U.S. and one in Canada. Sitters can build a profile with images, about area, trust stat (how many families trust the user), gender and age as well as an embedded Google Map showing their location.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

SittingAround offers users a unique way to find local babysitters. The application has been discussed on the web, and earned mostly positive comments from users. The main complaint was that the website sometimes loads slowly, hindering the user’s experience. The other issue is that the current community does not include a large number of potential babysitters. This issue will likely change down the road because of the site’s appealing service and functions.

What are the differences to other apps?

SittingAround is one of the few babysitter searches available on the web. What makes the application so unique is its coop feature. Users can join other parents as part of a “coop.” The coop (which is essentially a group) can swap babysitting services. Users can offer their services to others in their coop for free and earn points on the site. The user can use the points they earn to purchase babysitting time from their fellow coop members. Points are earned and no money has to be exchanged to get a reliable babysitter.
